Jim Entzenberger's Recovery Fund

Last Thursday night at 7:50 pm, my beloved father Jim was hit by a truck while riding his bike on the highly-biked Mission Road in front of Stinson Municipal Airport. He and my mother were riding with San Antonio Gear Shifters on their Thursday night ride, when a rumbling white pickup truck, driving over 60+ MPH and swerving recklessly on the two-lane road T-boned Jim, carrying him on the hood over 100 feet. Jim flew off the truck and the driver fled the scene.

Jim endured multiple serious injuries: a spinal fracture, broken sacrum, broken collarbone, three broken ribs, road rash all over his body, and other lacerations. His survival is an absolute miracle.

We have a lot to be thankful for right now: that Jim is alive, came out of a critical spinal surgery yesterday morning with no complications and minimal blood loss. We are grateful there were no punctured organs, that he can feel his hands and legs, and that he suffered no trauma to his head nor brain because he was, as usual, wearing his helmet.

My father is so many things: kind, smart, compassionate. He is also a fifth-generation San Antonian, a local business owner, and a self-employed contractor who employs others.

He is a conscientious veteran cyclist, who has been riding over 8 years in tight knit crews all over downtown San Antonio. This experience has opened my eyes to the need for more visibility around cycling safety in this incomparable city that we all love so much, to protect the beautiful community of SA cyclists that my parents call family.

My mother, Audrey and my brother, Jonathan, and I are all so grateful and so touched by the outpouring of prayers, love, and support from our incredible family, friends and community.
