Help Alex Survive Aplastic Anemia
Alex is courageously fighting the battle for his life and he needs your help.
Alex has suffered from sickle cell anemia from birth. It is a congenital disease which causes the production of abnormally shaped, sickled red blood cells blocking the flow of blood that circulates through the tissues of the body; the tissues with impaired circulation suffer damage from lack of oxygen. This causes a series of crisis that can last from a few days to months.
He has managed this debilitating disease with so much courage and humour.
However, complications resulting from the disease are beginning to cause his kidneys to fail. He has been diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia, which means his bone marrow can no longer produce red blood cells, causing the deterioration of his kidneys, and could even lead to a heart attack due to his low hemoglobin level.
He currently requires blood transfusions every 2 weeks, just to stay alive. The hospital appointments, treatments and tests have been very expensive, as Alex has no health insurance and is currently unemployed due to the nature of his illness.
We, his family and friends have come together to pay Alex's hospital expenses out-of-pocket, but the bills are beginning to pile up and we need your help. We need to raise money for our beloved son, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend; to help fund further blood transfusions and tests to see the extent of damage to his bone marrow. We are hoping that he can eventually get a bone marrow transplant that could offer a potentially permanent cure for this condition
Alex is smart, adventurous, caring, a practical joker and more than anything, a friend to all.
Despite this ailment, he has always been positive, a go-getter who graduated with a degree in Computer Science.
At 35, Alex is still young, he has achieved a lot in these short years but he hasn't stopped dreaming and has a lot to live for.
We promise to keep you updated with his progress, and truly believe that with your help and God's infinite mercy, Alex will be cured, and his health restored.
