Help Me Get My Diploma

Donation protected
My name is Robert F. Munoz. I am a recent Jan 2020 Fairfield University Alumni. Thank You for taking the time to read this and for any donation.

Growing up, I found it ironic how the essence of furthering my education and pursuing a college degree was emphasized the most by my parents—who barely finished High School in their home country, Ecuador.  Opportunity was scarce and my parents, each, put their studies aside to help their family in every way possible. While they always demanded the best grades, the importance of school felt like that of an obligation. I simply studied to save myself from a beating, and as a result, thanks to my parent’s strong conviction on education, I was blessed with the opportunity to enroll in a great university.

Unfortunately, taking my first steps on Fairfield University’s campus, I was immediately mesmerized and ecstatic with my newfound freedom; I had yet to realize the bigger picture. The option of forcing myself to study extra hard in order to get an “A+” for my parents was quickly fading; and with that, the drive and motivation I dragged began gradually slipping away. Although the fear of academically disappointing my loved ones pierced my mind every day throughout my college career, eventually, I recognized a pause was necessary and I had to reevaluate my life in order to find my ambition.

Although a little late, four and a half years later, I have gracefully earned a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in the Mechanical Engineering program with a mathematics’ minor—an endeavor I once felt was beyond my grasp. To my dismay, the extra semester at Fairfield University was no longer covered by my scholarships, Pell Grants, or financial aid due to a policy limiting each student to only four years of benefits. Lamentably, my Diploma has a financial hold from the school and events such as this pandemic have made it extremely difficult to collect all the money I need for graduation fees (including my diploma). I am actively seeking employment in my field of study while planning to start a career in robotics and aeronautical engineering. Perhaps, one day, you will see me on TV getting ready to be launched into space. But, for now, I am humbling asking for any small donation of any quantity in order to help me reach my goal of $8,200. This donation is not merely for my education, but for the continuation of the future that my parents wanted for themselves, a future that I want for myself.
