Going to Palestine with CPT.org

In 2011 I had the opportunity to view the film “This is my land…Hebron” at the Rocky Mountain Women’s Film Festival. I walked out of the movie shaken by the daily abuse suffered by the Palestinian people, adults and children, who live in Hebron. I consider myself a well-informed citizen, I read the news from multiple sources, I work in an environment that provides me access to many different people, different beliefs, and different views. And while I knew about the Palestinian occupation and was aware of the harsh living conditions in the occupied territories, it was a very shallow understanding. Seeing these lives on film, seeing the struggles just to exist, drove me to want to know more, to do more.

Media reports, movies, only provides so much information and while we may know what is happening is wrong and needs to be addressed, it often takes something much more direct to get us moving. What is happening in Palestine should outrage and horrify us all, but I fear we have grown immune to what the Palestinians live with each and every day. I would like to play a small part in helping to educate our community.

I will be documenting my time and experiences in Palestine on video and in photographs, to then use
when I return to talk to even more people about what is happening there and our responsibility to not turn our backs on these people. It is up to us to make sure we don’t let anyone forget. The lives of those who live day-to-day in the occupied territories have been drowned out in the international debate, we can be the ones who speak up for them.

I will be joining the Christian Peacemaking Team's delegation to Palestine/Isreal in May of 2015.
