Lola’s Cancer Journey

Since our last update, Lola has had four rounds of chemo. The chemo has caused profound hearing loss in one ear and moderate loss in the other, so she has been fitted for hearing aids. Her hearing will not return after treatment. Today Lola is back at the hospital. She has pneumonia, ear and bladder infections, and a kidney stone.

Please continue to keep Lola in your thoughts and prayers! We are so thankful for everyone who has offered support, sent cards, and shared encouraging messages.

Cancer treatment and the secondary issues it causes are expensive. We’d love for you to continue to share this to help generate as much support for Lola as we can!

UPDATE on Lola’s journey:

Lola’s surgery went well, but it was determined that she will need additional treatment. She is now beginning chemotherapy. The plan is for between 3-6 rounds.

Cancer sucks, and Lola is fighting 1,000 miles from home and family. Even though she isn’t able to work or do many things that a college student normally does, she is still determined to complete her classes at UMN.

This summer my granddaughter Lola was diagnosed with stage one ovarian cancer. Since the cancer was caught unusually early, her prognosis after treatment and surgery is really good! In the next two months, she’ll have surgery to remove her fallopian tubes and possibly an ovary. The cancer is caused by a BRCA gene mutation, which greatly increases the risk of ovarian and breast cancer. Because of this in the coming years, she will also have a preventative double mastectomy. However this fall, Lola plans to return to school at the University of Minnesota.

We’ve decided to create a GoFundMe to help ease the financial hardship that comes with cancer. The funds raised will go to Lola's medical bills and hopefully ease any other Financial burdens so she can focus on getting better!
