Jewellery design and making at the scrap Co-op

£490 of £1,000 goal

Created February 28, 2019
We are a group of jewellery designers, artists and illustrators recently graduated from Central St Martins looking to share our skills with refugees and displaced people currently residing in Athens.

We will use the funds  from our campaign to purchase jewellery making and designing materials, in Athens, that we will use in 2-3 day short courses.  The tools will be left at the scrap coop, the non profit workshop space where we will be hosting the short courses for use in future courses and in future projects.

Some of the money will be used to pay for posters, printed and put up in Athens to advertise the courses to potential attendees.

The funds will NOT be used to reimburse us, the organisers, for our time, food, travel or accommodation whilst in Athens.

The courses will begin on Wednesday the 27th of March and we will be arriving in Athens on March the 25th.

The list of courses we will be putting on will be:

Wax carving
Upcycling
Piercing and hand sawing
Beading
Ring making
Re-cycled aluminium casting
Jewellery illustration, gouache renders

The list of materials we will need to buy in Athens:

Smelting crucibal(s)
PPE
Paper
Paintbrushes
Printing posters
Gouache paints
Paint Palettes
Forms
Sand
Molds
Carving wax

Our project follows on from work by Lydia Hartshorn who visited Athens in summer 2017 having been awarded a travel bursery from Central St. Martins and is based on the assumptions that within refugee communities there are talented, capable, skilled and knowledgeable  people who careers and interests have been curtailed by the situations they find themselves in.

Also, that the responsibility for accommodating these people has fallen unfairly upon one of Europe's least wealthy countries, Greece and that other European citizens have a responsibility to connect with and if possible help everyone involved.
