Service Dog

My journey with June began in 2016, she was freshly retired from the racing tracks in Florida. Over two years, June trained by my side to provide tasks to help mitigate my disability.

I have severe C-PTSD, sensory processing disorder, and am on the autism spectrum. June provides light guide work to assist me in public places, as my sensory overloads cause my vision to become impaired. June has worked for 4 years and has provided me with independence, safety and security. She can guide me to exists, my partner or friends, through crowds, to safe spaces, and provide continuous guide work as well.

June has inspired me to create Helping Hounds Working Dogs. Helping Hounds is a dog training program providing service, therapy and facility dog training to under represented communities in Edmonton.

Part of creating accessibility in as many ways possible, is to have a breeding program. This means working alongside a breeder who breeds high quality, well tempered dogs who will be trained specifically for service, therapy and facility work.

I have found a local breeder outside of Edmonton Alberta who breeds wonderful working Smooth and Rough Collies.

I will be purchasing my next personal service dog prospect from her, should he/she be successful then we will likely have a secure breeder. Having a breeding program also allowed us to provide fully trained dogs, in addition to owner training support.
If the pup is not cut out for service dog work, he or she will be placed as a facility dog, therapy dog or companion dog.

June does an excellent job as a service dog, she’s been on some incredible adventures and continues to help me every day. She will be 7 years old in June. Service dogs in Alberta must retire at 9 years old. I am hoping to start training a puppy on time for June to slowly and comfortably retire as a pet at home with us.

I am on the wait list for a a puppy, which should arrive this upcoming summer.

all donations go directly to the cost of the puppy, and early puppyhood vet care (vaccines, check ups etc.)
