Jessica's breast cancer journey
Jessica is one of my best friends. She's this stunning 35 year old mother of two amazing kids, James a 6 year old hockey loving ball of energy,
and Addison, a quiet 2 year old who can't get enough cuddles in during
the day. Her husband Matt is an industrial fire fighter who works
in Alberta. Jessica and Matt relocated to Kamloops away from their
families in Cold Lake two years ago. Without any family in
Kamloops to support them during this difficult time they are fortunate to have many friends who are trying to rally behind them in support.
In a whirlwind journey, Jessica has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She will be undergoing a full mastectomy on March 14th, just over a
month after first finding the lump in her right breast.
Cancer doesn't care that Jessica is an avid cross fitter, working out five times a week. It doesn't care that she's a health conscious vegan who
has done everything right to be a healthy individual.
It doesn't care that she doesn't have family close by, or that her
husband is away every other week leaving her to care for her two
young children on her own. It doesn't care that she has no family
history of cancer, showing up in a lump she randomly found just a short time ago.
I am trying to raise money to help with the financial burden of this
diagnosis. Matt works out of province, and although he is currently on
a leave, he will eventually need to go back to work. Jessica is the sole
owner/operator of her spa and will not be able to continue working
after the mastectomy while she recovers.
They will also have to travel to Kelowna for radiation treatments after
the surgery. Not only does that mean expenses for hotel, food, gas, but they will also need to cover daycare costs for their kids, as well as
boarding and daycare for their two dogs, Ruger and Harley.
Lets show Jessica how much we care and help provide financial help so she can focus on beating this terrible disease.
Jessica has set up a caring bridge.org page where you can also follow
along for updates on this journey.
