Jessica needs our HELP, Unexpected Rare Diagnosis

Donation protected
It was a completely normal day for Jessica and her son Jayce.  They were playing at the local Kirkland park when all of a sudden Jessica started experiencing weird symptoms.  She started feeling numbness in her feet and hands and then started lose her balance.   This neurological pain was completely out of the blue and foreign.

After talking with her sister she agreed it was smart to see a doctor.  She went to Evergreen hospital and then was directly admitted to the neurological unit at the University of Washington Hospital on Aug. 15th.  Everything was unfolding so quickly there was barely enough time to figure out childcare for her son Jayce.

Within three days Jessica was experiencing complete paralysis!  Imagine that.  On Wednesday you are at the park playing with your beautiful child and by Saturday you can no longer feel your entire body with the paralysis quickly moving toward your head.  Completely Terrifying!

Jessica was diagnosed with acute motor and sensory axonal neuropathy Guillain–Barré syndrome (AMSAN GBS). It is a very rare neurological condition affecting approximately 600 Americans per year.  This rare condition has essentially left her almost completely immobile for over a month.  Her days at the hospital consist spinal taps, MRI, EMG, physical rehab and IVIG transfusions. She describes the pain as prolonged and equivalent to 20 days of child-birth.

In spite of her considerable pain, she remains positive about her condition.  She is determined to walk out of that hospital unassisted and fights every day to get stronger.  Despite her effort in the hospital the financial burden of carrying for her son is very real and heavy.

She will need caregivers and childcare to carry out their daily tasks.  Out of pocket expenses could amount to more than $69,000 for the first 6 months.
While we can’t take away the devastating effects of GB Syndrome, we can all help reduce the immediate financial stress of this transition by raising enough money for a few months of care.
Thank you for considering to donate.  Every dollar helps.  Please share this fundraiser with friends and family and let’s spread to word to support our amazing Jessica Rodenhauser.
