Jess and Forest Fire Loss

Jess and Forest just finished pouring their souls into their dream house in northern Santa Cruz County. They quite literally built the house from the ground up with help from friends and neighbors, using skills they had acquired from helping others with their homes, and from watching YouTube videos. After several years of demo and construction, they moved into their house in March of 2020.
Jess, Forest, and their pup Milo evacuated their home late on Tuesday night due to the CZU lightning complex fires. We are all thankful that they were able to evacuate safely. Unfortunately, things are not looking good for their brand new home. The community they were in was in the direct path of the fires, and preliminary photos from the community show utter destruction. Although they don't have a final confirmation that their house fell victim to the flames, there is strong evidence that they have lost everything.
We are rallying to help support Forest and Jess a) find and pay for temporary living space, and b) possibly repair damage or fund some new construction on their property. They had taken out a loan to pay for the construction of this house. They could use any help they can, as they invested most of their finances into this house. A little goes a long way.

My name is Alicea and I live in North Carolina. Jess and Forest have been close friends of mine since 2011. My husband and I lived near Jess and Forest for two years during their home building process, and loved being involved. We helped with the demolition of the old structure on the site, and helped with various tasks of new construction. We were amazed at their ability to construct a new home from the ground up, and appreciated their resourcefulness along the way.
