Jerry's Radiation Fund

(Jerry likes this song - He used to sing it and change the lyrics up a little bit... I think it fits.  We love you, Jerry! <3)

Jerry is my stepdad. He met my mom over 20 years ago when I was just a kid, and turned into an awesome dad to me and my little brothers. Now we're all grown up, and even though he and my mom aren't married anymore, we still consider ourselves family, and we always will. Jerry was there for us when we had no one else. He is the reason we got to travel, to see the world and meet new people. Not to mention... He helped raise us...  And I can tell you that we weren't always the easiest kids to deal with. In many ways, this man IS my dad, and right now, he needs help.

Just before Christmas, we got the awful news that Jerry has cancer. He's had a stellar attitude about it, and he's always been a fighter, but now it's our turn to lift him up, just like he did for us growing up.

Jerry has been through two surgeries so far, and in a month, he'll be starting radiation five days a week for six weeks. He's going through treatment in Wake Forest - probably one of the best places around - but he lives in Marion. It's a drive of several hours, and although those of us that know him know that he would be stubborn enough to try to make the drive every day, we all know it would be much safer for him if he could stay near the hospital.

There's a State Employees Credit Union family home near the hospital. The place is nice, and it has everything that Jerry will need...including transportation to and from the hospital where he will be receiving his treatments. Beyond that, it's also a place where other people who are going through similar things will be staying, so we know our dad will never be alone, even if we can't be there with him the whole time like we want to be.

The cost is $40 per night, and Jerry has been dealing with all of this for over a month now. We don't want him to have to worry about the money, too. We've set the goal a little higher as we want to be able to cover the cost of the money transfer from GoFundMe and any incidentals that arise during Jerry's stay there.

We need to rally the troops for this former Marine. Every little bit helps. We have three weeks to raise the money, so even if you can't donate, please share this page and share Jerry's story. We'll be posting updates here as often as we can so that all of you who know and love Jerry can follow him on his journey.

Semper Fi, Marine. We've got your back.
