Jeremy DeCell Medical Fund

At the end of July 2017, Jeremy had just returned from a long deployment as a U.S. Forest Service Firefighter. He has served the community of Mammoth Lakes, and anywhere in the nation for the last 10 years. He had noticed a cough that was progressively worsening, but this was not atypical considering the situations one in his profession deals with during the busy fire season. Before being deployed to the next incident, he decided to get a consultation, and his doctor ordered a chest x-ray. 
 
The results of the x-ray came in the form of words no one ever wants to hear from their doctor. We found a substantial tumor in your chest, and we believe this is cancer. Jeremy, being Jeremy, decided to do what he does best. He decided to meet chaos with calm, remain positive, and develop a plan to take care of the problem.
 
Within 24 hours Jeremy was on a plane to UCSF for a surgical biopsy with some of the leading cancer researchers in the country. There he found out he had a malignant, very rare, and very large tumor in his mediastinum.  The doctors were surprised how he walked in with his condition, not knowing just a week before he was operating on the fireline doing one of the most difficult jobs on the planet.
 
Since the diagnosis, Jeremy has begun an aggressive chemotherapy regime, one that has taken him away from the career and community that he loves so much.  With the future still uncertain, Jeremy still remains positive and poised to fight. The funds raised here will help alleviate some of the financial worries of such an ordeal.
