Dear Friends of Jennifer, JenB, Jenny B and JB,

Our girl Jen has been a tremendous champion for those who face cancer. It became her calling after she endured life-threatening brain cancer 17 years ago. Once recovered and in remission, Jen dedicated her life supporting others with cancer, from fundraising for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, to volunteering for numerous cancer causes like the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation in Santa Barbara and The Brad Kaminsky Foundation, and serving as a personal mentor for those enduring challenging prognoses and treatments. For the past two years, Jen has worked as a medical assistant at the Ridley-Tree Cancer Center where she brought compassionate empathy and a great big smile to her patients she had been lucky enough to take care of.

Now Jen will be donning her warrior attire for her own battle once again. You may know by now that Jennifer was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) on August 25.  After an intense round of chemo she will need a bone marrow transplant.  She is receiving her treatment at Scripps in San Diego because, although the Ridley-Tree Cancer Center is her personal and professional home, they don’t do bone marrow transplants and it was recommended that she receive all of her treatment in one place.  She is very fortunate to be close to family and friends in San Diego.

Many people have been asking Jen how they can help.  She has thoughtfully identified three ways we can all help!

1)      Please get on the Bone Marrow Registry as a possible match!   Jennifer will need a bone marrow transplant following her round 1 induction chemotherapy once kicked into remission and will need a match.  Jennifer's brother is the first person her transplant team hopes is her match, however, if he is not they will go straight to the National Bone Marrow Registry to find a match. It’s so easy to get on the list:

a.       Visit www.lovehopestrength.org (LoveHopeStrength is actually a foundation Jennifer volunteered for while living in Maine!)

b.      Request that a kit be mailed to you (or any # of kits if you have a group of people interested. Host a “get on the list” party and get lots of your friends and family signed up at the same time!)

c.       Fill out a simple questionnaire and swab your cheek.

d.      Mail the kit(s) back.

2)      Jen loves mail of any kind, but especially snail mail.  Her email address is [email redacted] and her mailing address is 12825 Lunada Place, San Diego, CA  92128.   (She really does love snail mail!)  She also loves hearing from everyone via Facebook and appreciates your messages.

3)      Contribute to this GoFundMe page! Jennifer will likely be away from work for many months and we can all help by ensuring she can stay afloat financially at this time.

If you know of anyone who would like to receive a weekly email update, please send me the email address and we’ll add it to the list.  Please forward this email on. The more people this message reaches the better!!

Sincerely,

Collene, Jill, Erinn and Susan
