Help Jef Logsdon

Donation protected
The purpose of this campaign is to raise money for Jef and Julie Logsdon to be spent on Jef Logsdon’s medical bills accrued due his hospitalization in August 2020 and the future expenses associated with long-term treatment of his conditions (including hepatology, neurology, physical rehabilitation, dietetic consulting, medications, imaging, lab work and primary care). The organizers are friends of Jef and Julie and are from Panama City, FL. The beneficiary will be receiving the funds directly. Our dear friend Jef Logsdon is in urgent need of our help to save his life.

He requires long-term medical care to avoid organ failure and brain damage that he is not able to get as an uninsured person. This is despite repeated attempts at emergency rooms and other facilities. This is dire.

What is going on?

Jef has been in and out of the hospital for over two weeks. He has currently been at Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center for several days where they are working on stabilizing his condition. His liver is not functioning properly and he has had a cascade of other problems including high ammonia levels and fluid on his brain resulting in trouble walking without assistance, trouble with speech and mental clarity, and on top of this he has tested positive for Covid-19 and is possibly developing pneumonia in his lungs.

Emergency room visits are his only option right now as an uninsured person, and they are only keeping him alive in the moment. Without long-term treatment his medical issues will continue unabated until there is no quality of life and nothing left to be done. That cannot happen and we will not let it.

This is all happening on the heels of the loss of his beloved little sister to cancer and loss of employment during a pandemic.

Let’s talk about who Jef is to us.

Many of you have known Jef for 20 years or more. He has been a friend to everyone, a force of creativity and joy and mischief and music and FUN unlike anyone I have ever known. He is the most unique person I have ever had the honor of calling my friend. Whether he’s been in your band, or your bartender, come to your art show, made you a burrito when you’re sad, organized a bike ride you’ll never forget, or made your kids laugh, you know him and you are his family. He needs us and he needs us NOW.

What has to happen:

Step 1: Jef must have physical rehabilitation to be able to walk steadily before he can enter an initial 30-day treatment program. We need to raise at least $5,000 to cover the cost of this piece.

Step 2: Get Jef into the 30-day treatment program. This is a prerequisite for him to receive the specialized care he needs in step 3 that will keep him alive and preserve his quality of life in the long term.

Step 3: He will need to have a specialized long-term treatment plan with a hepatologist, neurologist, and possibly more physical rehabilitation. We are trying to get some specific numbers around that, but the initial estimate for covering hospital, doctor and medication costs is at a minimum of about $60,000 right now.

What else can I do?

If you are unable to donate money but you have expertise in navigating the medical system for the uninsured, connections with charitable organizations that could be of assistance, have time to help with household chores or pets or meals, run errands, or can be a companion as needed when he is out of the hospital, please go to our Facebook page "Help Jef Logsdon" and send us a message. You can also follow us and contact us on Instagram @help_jef_logsdon. We will coordinate help for Julie so she can devote her time to the most pressing needs.

We will continue to provide updates on Jef’s prognosis on this page. Please consider this the main hub of information and look for info on his status here. We want to help free up his wife Julie’s time to work on arranging Jef’s care, keeping the family updated, and keeping her head above water instead of providing individual updates to people.

We cannot live in a world where we allow people to suffer and die simply because they do not have money. Jef has inherent worth as a human being. We need to honor that with access to lifesaving health care. Whether you have $50 or $5, absolutely any amount helps. Let’s get our Jefhie back.
