Jeeps for jungle parishes HUANCANE-PERU

The Prelature of Huncane is in the southeast of Peru, in its jungle zone (Province of Sandia), has some of the most dangerous roads in the world with frequent and fatal accidents. The roads are in a terrible condition which makes travelling extremely dangerous for the priests and missionaries working in the Prelature of Huancane.
On Monday of Holy Week 2021, Fr. Venancio Chambi (55) died in a tragic road accident travelling to Huancane. This trip required an eight-hour drive on some of the worlds most dangerous roads. Please see this video for more information: https://youtu.be/QdHYVyjbRpQ.
Two of the parishes' jungles (San Juan del Oro and San Pedro de Putinapuncho) do not have a parish jeep (4x4 pickup) which means the missionaries must often travel in local vans and buses - when they are available. This makes it extremely difficult to attend to the spiritual and pastoral needs of the people in these remote locations.
Also, Fr. Carlos Pacheco, parish priest of Putinapunco, serves almost 20,000 faithful and must attend over 75 small towns. He is very limited in his ability to attend to their pastoral needs without a jeep. He must often cross dangerous rivers and even walk for hours to get back to the parish house if he does not happen to find transport in the jungle.

Who is raising the money and how will it get to Peru?
The money is being raised on behalf of my brother, Fr. David O’Connor, who has been serving the Peruvian people in very remote poor areas for almost seven years and is currently working in the jungle zone of the Prelature of Huancane. Bishop Giovanni Cefai, MSSSP, Prelate of the Prelature of Huancane is appealing for help to urgently buy two Toyota Hilux 4x4 jeeps to assist the priests and missionaries in their pastoral duties and help to safeguard their lives. The money will be sent directly to the Prelature of Huancane from Ireland to purchase these Toyota pickups as soon as possible.
