In lieu of gifts for Ms. Jeanne Masengi’s 77th birthday, we are raising funds for Eben Haezer Education Center (EEC) in Nglegok, a village in Blitar Regency, East Java, Indonesia, located approx. 160 km southwest of Surabaya, the capital of East Java province.
EEC is a community-based educational organization started by Ms. Yudith, a member of Bethel Indonesia Church, who is very passionate to provide a good and free tutoring service to primary and elementary school age children in Nglegok and its surrounding, regardless of their faith.
EEC has been helping students since 2012 through tutoring math, science, arts and English as a second language to build strong and resilient communities. Currently the tutoring services are served by 4 teachers and open from Monday to Friday, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Ms. Masengi has been a major donor for EEC.
Along with her close friends in Toronto, they cover EEC operating cost such as paying the rent, tutors, school supplies and nutrition snacks. This very small group also purchased computers, desks and chairs.
To date, EEC has been assisting 85 students to reach their full potentials. It has been proven that these students showed major improvements not only in their academic, but also in their behavior, problem solving and creativity skills.
Ms. Jeanne Masengi is a great living example. She doesn’t ask for birthday gifts. Instead, she encourages all of us to give as we have been blessed. We have the power to give.
Longer term, we wish this GoFundMe movement can support buying a permanent and better facility that cost $25,000. During the last 6 years, Center has moved twice, run classrooms in terrace or garage and at anytime the current premise can be put on sale by the owner risking the continuation of this extracurricular program. It’s in you to keep the EEC afloat!
