Jean Smith Memorial Fund

The Smith family - Liz, Ellie and Natalie are facing a terribly difficult time. Liz’s mom Jean died very unexpectedly after a brief but difficult battle with leukemia. She will be sorely missed by all who were touched by her kindness.

Jean loved many things including quilting, crafting, exploring towns in Ohio, her sisters and above all her girls. Although Jean and Liz were originally a team of two, their little family doubled thirteen years ago when Liz brought her beautiful twin girls home from the hospital. Jean knew the challenges of being a single parent and did everything in her power to protect and love her daughter and granddaughters. The four lived in Grandview where Liz and Jean worked together, day by day, to build a loving home. They watched with joy as the ‘babies’ grew into young adults and Jean gave endlessly of herself, sharing both the struggles and the rewards of parenting.

Jean took immense pride in her girls. Her daughter and granddaughters were truly the greatest joys of her life, and Jean’s steadfast love and support was foundational to their family. She was the central figure of the Smith girl’s lives and her presence will be missed at every meal, every holiday, and all the girls’ milestones ahead.

Jean was truly extraordinary. She dedicated her life to providing a shelter in the storm for her daughter and granddaughters. Because Liz and Jean have always lived together and shared expenses, this loss will not only be felt emotionally, but also financially.
