For those who don't know me, my name is Jamie Scroop. I am a Pole Vaulter from Adelaide, South Australia aiming for Rio 2016.
It has been my lifelong dream to compete at the Olympic Games. I have until July to achieve the qualifier (4.50m) and believe this is 100% within reach. As a self-funded athlete I have been working part time to help cover some of my training and competition associated expenses. It has however, been quite difficult to balance work around a full time training and competition schedule and as such I have recently had to leave my job to chase my Olympic Dream.
I am very thankful to have been given the opportunity to train in New Zealand for a month under an experienced coach and in a professional indoor training facility unlike anything I have ever had access to. This means, regardless of weather, I can continue to do technical training, a benefit I cant get in Adelaide. I believe this will make a huge difference to my vaulting and exactly what I need to be able to clear the Olympic qualifier.
There are significant travel expenses associated with training overseas for a prolonged period. Beyond this training period, I will also need to seek further overseas competitions in order to achieve the qualifier. Unfortunately, there are limited funding and sponsorship opportunities in athletics, particularly in South Australia. That being the case and with no income I am hoping to raise the funds to cover these expenses.
The road to this point has not been without it challenges but I have never wanted anything more and I fully believe I can get there. I am whole-heartedly committed to giving this everything I have to compete in Rio later this year.
Thankyou for reading my story, I am so grateful for all the support I have had to this point. If you can assist me in any way or know someone who might be able to help fund my Olympic campaign it would mean to world to me.
Sending all my love and sincerest thanks
