Help Keep Spanish School Open

Donation protected
Dear Supporters,

We humbly ask for your help to keep our school open and operational during this uncertain and difficult time.

--Who we are and a little about what we do--

I’m Romina Mancilla and I started SF Spanish in my living room in the Fillmore district of San Francisco in 2005, after coming to the U.S. from Argentina and not speaking a word of English in 1998. I taught all ages of Spanish learners and offered special events like cooking classes in Spanish, immersion trips to Argentina and summer children camps.

SF Spanish became a tight knit community, and our membership slowly grew over the past 15 years.  After a lot of hard work, we were fortunate enough to open two schools sites, renting out two medium-sized offices in 2013, and expanding our classes and hiring a team of experienced teachers and admin staff.

--Staying open to serve our students who are shuttered in place--

We understand the seriousness of the novel coronavirus and the ensuing need to practice social distancing and stay confined inside our homes.  In-person classes are not possible at this time, but we are doing everything in our power to keep our doors open for our students, moving all of our classes online via Skype. Our teachers are being super nimble and creative as they create new content best suited for video conferencing.

We are touched by the number of students who have written in to let us know how SF Spanish is a much needed educational resource and welcome respite during this time, and not to mention an enormous help to parents who are doing their best to home school their children and teens.

—If you can help, here’s how--

Despite our move to online classes, we are still experiencing a reduction in classes, and therefore a significant decrease to our income.

For us to keep going, we still need to pay the rent for both school sites, as well as insurance, Internet, and all the utilities to keep functioning. We are reaching out to you at this time of upheaval so that we can continue teaching and maintaining our community of teachers and students. Your assistance will go directly to the rent and utilities.

We’re so grateful to be able to work on what we love and to help others with their language goals whether for professional or personal development. Navigating the next two months is going to the be most challenging time ever for our school and community, and with your help, we have a stronger chance of surviving this crisis while continuing to serve our SF Bay area community.

With much gratitude and sincere wishes that you and your loved ones stay healthy and safe.

Love Romina and SF Spanish staff
