Help for Sandy

Hi, my name is Kristen Ortiz, and I am fundraising for my mother-in-law, Sandra Ortiz. On September 24th, while Sandy was working, she became weak, lost feeling in her hands, and began slurring her speech. She was taken to the hospital and it was determined she was actively having a stroke and had a blood clot behind her eye. She was then life flown to St. Luke’s Bethlehem hospital where she underwent an emergency surgery to remove the clot. The clot was removed however she had already suffered damage from the stroke.

To make matters worse, the night she was admitted to the hospital she continued to have further stroke activity and seizures which required her being intubated and placed into a medically induced coma where she has remained until now. She is no longer under sedation but is still intubated and has yet to wake up from the coma. Dr’s. are hopeful but have informed us that this was a “major, major stroke” It remains to be seen the level of permanent disability she will have after all of this but it is expected she will be wheelchair bound and have paralysis on 1 side of the body as well as extreme speech difficulties.

Our family has decided to start a go fund me for her in hopes of raising some money that will help her with medical bills, her hefty monthly health insurance premiums, as well as paying for her home and every day bills that are quickly adding up.
