My Dad

Hello my name is Gilbert Ortiz. My father is David Ortiz. Around October of 2019 my father started developing a disease known as prostrate cancer. He knew immediately something was wrong but doctors could not determine what his health issues were until it was past the point of regression. Over the course of this year he has gone to the hospital dozens of times with no clear diagnosis. He was finally diagnosed July 2020 and has fought to try and get stronger to be a candidate for chemotherapy. He started treatment by lowering his testosterone but the cancer was very aggressive and spread to his bones as well. Over the last few months he has fought numerous infections and the pain of his cancer. He refused to take pain medication up until a few months ago even though he was in extreme pain. He was recently in a physical therapy facility center to try and gain his strength back and hopefully be able to receive chemotherapy. Unfortunately that’s not the case today. Last week we were informed that he will have a few days left with us. We decided right away to bring him home and continue care rather than leave him in a hospice facility. I’m going to spend as much time as I can with him. Ive probably spent more time with him this last year than I have my entire life and I’m glad that I’ve had this time with him. At the same time I hate myself for all the time I didn’t spend with or apart from him and my mother. You start to realize all the time you missed only once it’s too late. This has been a very difficult year for everyone and please don’t donate if you don’t have the means. A share or repost is more than helpful, if you can.
