Jazdyn Keenan Burke, Jaz, Jiggy, Jigga-man, fro-head, chunk face, bubba, or most commonly known as "BEAST," was born on August 3, 2012. Although in his parents’ eyes everything about him was perfect, medically his heart was not. He was born with CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE or CHD. His specific condition was called TETRALOGY OF FALLOT (Fah-low). Jaz has a hole in his heart and the oxygenated and deoxygenated blood are mixing together. He needed life saving open heart surgery at only 4 months.
Recently, his family received some alarming news after one of his annual cardiac checkups. They were told that an immediate "intervention" was necessary to fix his heart. On Monday July 17th, he was checked into Arnold Palmer Hospital for his procedure. While they hoped this procedure would fix his problem, unfortunately this wasn’t the case. After his surgery, the doctor presented the family with heartbreaking news that Jaz will need open heart surgery on September 13th to fix his heart.
Anyone who knows Jaz, knows he's the most loving happy kid around and nothing can or will hold him back, especially from his Jiu-Jitsu training. All Jaz wants to know is when can he get back to the mat to train. He will bring a smile to anyone’s face at any time.
As most who know Jaz’s parents Jon and Jamie, you probably know they are expecting their third child in November. They have always given back to the community by raising money at their gym to help others in need. Now is the time for us to give back to the Burke family and help them in a time of need.
The money we raise will help offset surgery and rehab costs as well as give Jon and Jamie some time away from the gym to spend much needed time with Jaz and their soon to be born child to give them the attention and nurturing they need.
