Hi everyone! As many of you may know I adopted my sweet little Eleanor from the Brampton Animal Services on August 22nd 2019. A Facebook post from a neighbouring rescue group posted Eleanor's story and quickly received my attention. Eleanor was found in the streets emaciated and fighting for her life. The amazing team at Brampton Animal Services rescued Eleanor and began treatment. However, Eleanor had trouble keeping food down, and after being seen by a specialist, Eleanor was diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Being all too familiar with this horrible disease, since my dog Duke was diagnosed with IBD in March of 2019, I felt the instant connection that I needed to help Eleanor too. It was unlikely she would be adoptable and would need medical attention for the rest of her life. Luckily, Eleanor fits perfectly into our home, and into my heart.
When I brought Eleanor home I immediately noticed that something wasn't quite right with her breathing.
On October 22nd 2019 I brought Eleanor to the Mississauga Oakville Veterinary Emergency Hospital for an internal medicine consult. Radiographs and an ultrasound were performed and revealed a sliding hiatal hernia. Sliding hiatal hernia's are rare in cats and are thought to be either congenital or due to trauma. Given Eleanor's history, we can guess her sliding hiatal hernia was likely due to trauma and this is what left Eleanor in critical condition when she was rescued.
I have received a quote of roughly $7000 for Eleanor's hiatal hernia repair. Her prognosis without this surgery is poor.
Unfortunately, my pet insurance will not cover this surgery as her symptoms of the hiatal hernia closely resembles the symptoms associated with Inflammatory Bowel Disease which she was diagnosed with before I adopted her, so for insurance purposes, her symptoms are considered pre-existing.
Eleanor has been through a lot in her few years of life.
I am here to ask for donations to help offset the costs of Eleanor's surgery. Every little bit helps, and I appreciate everything from the bottom of my heart. My little Eleanor means the world to me.
