Jaw Surgery for Danny the Horse

Donation protected

Danny Boy, our 22-year-old Mustang gelding, broke through a fence during the night two weeks ago.  While he was loose, he crossed the road in the dark just after 6 a.m., and was hit by a car.  Now, he needs life changing surgery, and we need your help to make sure he gets it.

After the accident, we called our vet right away, and moved Danny back to his stall.  He had cuts and scrapes on his leg and head, and clearly was a little "out of it".   The first 24 hours were touch and go (he started having mild tremors from his head injury), but he survived.  X-rays were taken the next day, and we discovered he has a broken mandible (jaw bone).

Because of the break, Danny can't eat grass or hay, so we make him a special liquified mash to eat every day.  It's the consistancy of very wet oatmeal.  He is also restricted to only going outside for short visits, since chewing raw grass could do more damage to the broken bone, and it's hard to stop a horse from at least trying to graze.  His spirits are good, considering his current lot in life, so we were hopeful that everything was going well with his healing.

Unfortunately, today, we got bad news. We learned that surgery is necessary to make sure Danny's jaw heals properly.  Without it, he'll be facing a lifetime of mash, no more hay or grazing,  & the rest of his days spent cooped up indoors.  That's not the life we want for him, especially since he could have another 20 years of life left in him, but the surgery costs are beyond our reach.

So now, we're asking for help.  Danny has lived with us for 7 years.  He's something of an ambassador on our farm.  He was a lesson horse for my daugher, and is now semi-retired, due to a foot issue that happened at his previous home.  We keep that in check with regular farrier care, so it's not a problem for him, as long as he's not overworked.  The broken jaw WOULD be a serious problem for him, though, if it's not properly repaired.
He's not the kind of horse who enjoys living in a stall.

Any funds raised here will be used for Danny's surgical and veterinary expenses.

Danny is our love... our trouble maker, our entertainer, our cuddle buddy.  Being able to make sure he gets to continue his life as he should is our #1 wish.  You can help make that happen.  The sooner we raise the funds, the sooner his surgery can be scheduled, so he can go on with healing the way he should.

We thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
