Javin's Recovery Fund

Donation protected
On the night of January 13th, I got a phone call that I wish no one ever has to hear. It was Kayla, my nephew Javin’s girlfriend. She said that Javin was in a bad accident and didn’t know anything else other than that he was being rushed to Christiana hospital. My heart sunk and body went numb as I sped to the ER. I tried to stay positive, but was overwhelmed with worse case scenarios. Sitting in the ER for what felt like an eternity, we were finally told that he was stable and  we could see him, but to be prepared  because there was a lot of blood.

Due to the severe impact, the steering wheel broke and Javin’s head had smashed through the windshield. He sustained a broken ankle and a laceration to the knee, but the head was the obvious concern. I was glad to see that he was conscious and talking coherently, but there was A LOT of blood. Thankfully  there was no internal damage and he was eventually able to move out of ER and into a recovery room. A hematoma developed over his eye and prevented him from being released for a few more days.

He is now home recovering and still doesn’t fully recall the events leading to the accident. I can't say enough how thankful we all are that here is still here with us and that his injuries are not too serious considering the alternative.

For those of you who don’t know Javin, he is a hard working fulltime nursing student who also manages to hold down a part-time job in order to continue living in his home after his mom and brother moved to Florida. He was in his final stages of the nursing program and was about to graduate and begin his career this May.

However, due to the accident, he will now need another year to complete the program. Due to the extent of his injuries he is unable to work, which will make it extremely difficult to maintain housing expenses until he is back on his feet. His car was totaled and since he only had liability, he may not be able to afford another car for commuting back and forth to work and school.

In addition, he is responsible for a $12,000 deductible on his medical insurance and 40% of expenses incurred afterwards.

If you know Jav, you know how hard he has worked and what he has sacrificed to make it this far. It’s extremely difficult seeing him banged up like this and the road that now lies in front of him as a result of the accident. I know he would never ask for any of this, but I am hopeful that everyone is able to contribute a little something to help ease some of the burden of a young man who is working hard to make his way in the world and make a difference.  We all need help sometimes, especially in the event of an unforeseen event like this accident. Any amount you are willing to contribute would be a true blessing.
