Jason’s story, living with MSA

Donation protected
Jason Orr lives in Maryland. He was born on December 30th 1972. He is only 44 Years old and he is fighting a rare neurodegenerative disorder called Multiple system atrophy (MSA) The signs and symptoms are similar to those of Parkinson's disease with the difference that MSA causes deterioration and shrinkage (atrophy) of portions of your brain that regulate internal body functions, digestion and motor control. Unfortunately there  is no cure or treatment for Jason’s condition.
Everything started about two years ago when Jason started to have a weird pain in his hands and feet. Numerous tests, MRIs, CAT scans and blood tests were done but no answer was found and the pain was only getting worst. Jason even had carpal tunnel surgery that was unsuccessful. One night he was driving home and he began having breathing issues. He drove himself to the hospital where he went into cardiac arrest and was actually dead for a few seconds. After that horrible episode Jason got a tracheotomy and was referred to John Hopkins hospital were he was officially diagnosed with MSA. The doctors told Jason he had roughly 5 -6 years left to live but with the onset of all his recent medical conditions and the fact that he has collapsed 16 times they have given Jason even less time than that.  All of his dreams, plans and future vanished since he was diagnosed with MSA and everything has spiraled down since. On top of his condition Jason  lost his mother right before  all this started and he has recently suffered the loss of his father this  November 2017.  Most of Jason’s hopes of going home and being around family have greatly diminished. Jason has no choice but to live in a rehabilitation home where he spends most of his days alone. He would really like to be transferred to a better assisted living place where he could receive better care and quality of life. Due to his condition Jason has lost his job and ability to work. Subsequently he is behind on his rehabilitation home payments and cannot afford more critical tests done because of his financial situation.
Jason spends most of his day with pain and his condition makes once simple tasks now very difficult.  Anyone that knows Jason knows that he has always been the guy who would give you the shirt off his back if you were cold. He enjoyed every day with a fun loving spirit that has always been contagious to anyone who has met him. So now I feel it is time to dig down and help just like he would do for anyone of us. One thing Jason needs is to get a new motorized wheelchair so he can move around easier. Let’s all help Jason to have a better quality of life. He doesn’t deserve to spend his days alone and in pain, he doesn’t deserve to be submerged in depression, he doesn’t deserve to wake up everyday and think that he’s slowly and painfully dying,  he doesn’t deserve to be in a place where he gets sub par care and his depression only gets worse and worse. He doesn’t deserve to have MSA at his young age, he never got the chance to do so many things that people sometimes take for granted. He deserves to have the best of the years he has left. Please consider a donation to this important cause and let’s show Jason that he is not alone in this journey. It takes 1000 good hearts to donate only $10 in order to reach our goal! Would you be one ?
