Jason Cichocki appreciation

Many of you on the Surfcoast would be aware of the selfless work of Jason Cichocki and his wife Remedios do for injured and rescued wildlife.
Last night I stopped on Anglesea Rd in Freshwater Creek to check a roo on the road. It had obviously been hit by a vehicle and as it was still on the road and it was clear that the driver did not stop to check it. It was freshly struck and indeed there was a young Joey in its pouch, unfortunately the mother did not make it.
I had Jason’s number in my phone - I had saved it for “just in case” after seeing it on a Facebook post. Within 20 mins his wife Remedios arrived with 2 kids (Luca and Malo) in tow. They dropped everything on a Friday night to try and save a Joey’s life. What beautiful and selfless people and we are blessed to have them on the Surfcoast and how lucky those boys are to have an upbringing like that. Remedios gave me great tips for if I ever find myself in the same situation and swiftly took the Joey off to the vet. It was a wee young girl and has a fight on her hands to survive but as we got her early at least she has a chance. This wouldn’t be possible without Jason and Remedios’ dedication to our local wildlife.
After speaking to them I also learnt that they are 100% volunteer. They do not receive any funding for the hours of work that they do. I propose that we, as a community, raise some money so that Jason can take his family out for dinner and celebrate the hard work that they do. It’s a small token of appreciation but we cannot let these kind of acts go without thanks and some reward for them. If we go over our target then they can keep the rest for petrol money. I found out the astronomical amount that they spent on petrol last year and a few extra coins will hardly do a dint in it but hopefully it will help. (There is a separate go fund me for petrol apparently).
I don’t know them personally but I sure do hope that our community can rally together for something relatively small but worthwhile and give this amazing family some reward.
