Jessica Aquino Textile Arts Center Residency Fund
Mi gente! It brings me great pleasure to announce I have been accepted
to a 9 month artist residency at the Textile Arts Center in Brooklyn, NY!! Applicants all over the world apply, but only 8 are accepted into this competitive residency.
The residency is from October 2020-June 2021. I will be provided with my own studio space, use of equipment, full curriculum of technical classes, textile history, conservation and access to professionals in the fields of contemporary art and textile communities. As an underrepresented Latinx fiber artist, this residency will help further develop and contextualize my artistic practice.
Any donation will help cover tuition, moving expenses (PA to NYC), and materials. For many of us, these are very difficult and uncertain times. I recently lost my job due to the pandemic; so this opportunity is financially, out of reach.
My current circumstances made me question whether this is even the right time. However, there will never be a right time. This leap will always be uncertain. I don’t have the option to defer so this experience is truly once in a lifetime. I know that with your support I will be able to excel at this opportunity.
I have five months to raise the funds. Any donation (no matter how large :D ) will be a step closer to helping me reach this personal, artistic, and professional dream. Thank you everyone for your time, energy, support, and generosity!
