In Our Hearts Forever
As many of you know, Jane is a single mom with a daughter, Cheyenne. She was self-employed and managed her own business for 25+ years. This year Jane navigated some significant medical issues while keeping up with her business and sending her daughter off to college. Jane did a great job with all these challenges, but recently her health took a serious turn.
Six years ago, Jane went in for a routine checkup with her general physician and was told she needed heart surgery to correct a congenital valve defect. Jane had her first open heart surgery in July 2014 and the valve was replaced. Since then, Jane was hospitalized numerous times for lung issues and internal bleeding related to her heart. After many tests, the doctors came to the conclusion that Jane needed to have a second open heart surgery on her valve. She had this four-hour surgery on September 30 with immediate complications and an emergency follow-up surgery. Due to the back-to-back surgeries, her liver and kidneys were damaged. This trauma catapulted her into liver failure and later on kidney failure. Jane was listed for a liver transplant, but while waiting, she suffered a setback and was put on life support. In this condition she was no longer eligible to be listed. The doctors looked for signs of improvement throughout these last few days in hopes of her once again becoming eligible for a transplant. Unfortunately, Jane’s condition was too fragile and the chances for recovery were insurmountable. She was taken off life support yesterday afternoon and passed away within the hour.
