Jamie’s Ovarian Cancer

It is with heavy heart that I am writing this, but our family has been silently battling Ovarian Cancer. We are no longer remaining silent.. For those of you that are aware, and those who are not; we have been in and out of the hospital at least once a month over the past few years with lower abdominal pain and no resolution.
We have been to countless family doctors with no avail. Been frustrated and agitated at the health care system. After seeing so many doctors and hospital visits you can only guess what happens next when no one wants to take the time to look deeper. They label you as drug seekers.
We now understand much further what people go through just to find relief. We also understand that you must keep trying until someone finally listens. Only trying to find a way for Jamie to be able to suppress the pain down enough just to sleep. She has battled this pain and continues to push through it as to not affect the lives of our three kids.
Finally an OBGYN took her pain seriously. They looked at the countless tests and set her up with an explority surgery. Look for things that you can not find during traditional in office visits. They found a lot of scar tissue from three cesarean incisions, cysts, endometriosis and something else.
We aren't given much more detail following the exploration except we need to go see a specialist at Hershey Medical.
It all seemed like everything was going well, we had a doctor who believed the pain, we had a referral to seek additional help to resolve this real pain that exists that no one believed up until now. At first it was just " pre cancerous cells " Jamie was started on a clinical trial that was essentially chemo. Then the real fun began...precancerous cells turned into CANCER. six letters no one wants to hear. A word that tears families apart.
Not this family. We have embraced it. We have a diagnosis. We have a game plan. We have a treatment schedule. Three rounds of chemotherapy, followed by a hysterectomy, followed by additional chemo. The goal is to kill the cancer cells, remove the affected area via hysterectomy and then go back to chemo to kill anything that might be lurking in her abdomen.
We have been doing our best to maintain our finances but no one plans for cancer. No one plans for the heavy copays thst come with it, the cost of fuel to get to treatments, the cost of sitters to stay with kids while their mother goes to treatments. The largest issue is the cost of the hysterectomy.
We must pay $2,500 in order for them to do the surgery and that is the biggest step to ensuring our kids will have a healthy mother to love and cherish them for as long as possible. Anything helps us at this point. We are proud enough to ask and not ashamed. We need help and we know this early enough to make a difference.
$2500 can go a long way for us. This is the insurance payment we must pay to have Jamie's procedure. We have been stretched pretty thin with $150 chemo copays each week. Transportation to and from Hershey Medical Hospital twice a week. Child care for the times she is gone at these time consuming visits. No one ever plans for the financial burdens something like this comes with.
Anything you can do to help, any monetary donation, any offer of physical help, anytime you share this fund to friends and family that know me and my wife. I am proud to call you all my friends and family.
