Hi, my name is Emily and I'm Jamie's mum. Jamie has suffered alot since being diagnosed with a grade 4 metastic medulloblastoma, unfortunetly his prognosis is life limiting.
A short back story, in July 2020 Jamie attended a routine appointment for his in specsavers, they quickly found something was seriously wrong and he was sent to QA in portsmouth. From there Jamie had to have a ct scan, they found a large tumour in his cerebellum and we were rushed to southampton for brain surgery. In the time we spent there, Jamie recieved two brain surgeries both lasting about 10 hours each, the first was to remove the tumour, he lost so much blood they couldnt continue and they found it had spread. The second time he went in they found a blood clot and he was rushed in within 30minutes of finding it. When i finally saw him again he was covered in drips, tubes and bandages around his head. He was swollen, all over his little body, he looked nothing like my little boy. After spending nearly 2 weeks in picu, Jamie was moved to the neuro-rehab ward, I was told he wouldnt walk, talk or eat for months and within a week he proved them wrong. Jamie grabbed the side of his bed and pulled himself up and said 'mum' and tried to move, the nurses had to lay him back down as he had lines attached. From that day he continued to prove everyone wrong, he began eating, drinking and eventually he tried to move. I was so proud of him and his determination, jamie is such an amazing boy. Jamie continued with 6 weeks of radiotherapy and a further 6 months of intense chemotherapy. He lost his hair, he was sick and could barely eat most days. Jamie lost so much weight he was stick thin.
Jamie now suffers the after effects of treatment and his surgerys, he suffers with extreme fatigue, dizzyness and slow processing. He is now in a wheelchair most of the time and small activites cause him to need alot of rest, jamie has autism, sensory processing difficultys, hyper mobility and a vp shunt. His legs and back hurt most days and yet he continues to fight through everything.
I have spent the past year and half in tribunal with the local authority to get them to provide Jamie with the appropriate professionals he needs, physios, speech therapist, art therapist, hydrotherapist, a tutor and an occupational therapist. I have successfully won a powered wheelchair from them, however the issue we have now is he needs wheelchair accessable car. Jamie would only be able to use his wheelchair if we had the wav to fit the powered chair in. He needs this independance, he a 14yr old boy with little to no independance as it is. I really want Jamie to live to the best of ability whilst he has the time he does. Jamie doesnt know how bad his cancer is, the decision was made by myself and the oncology team that he wouldnt know as jamie suffers with anxiety. Its been the hardest secret iv ever had to keep. I still have hope and i pray that someone somewhere will find a cure. All I can do for now is give him the best life that I can and Jamie having some independance is a step closer to that goal.
Please help me to make this possible for Jamie.
Thank you to anyone that helps.
