Writing of James's life story - Publicity for Steps

Donation protected
This fundraiser was started in 2021 after the passing of James, to raise funds for 100 professional writing hours. Half the target has been met to date. Interviews have been gathered, materials written up, 1/3 of the book drafted, a biography writing course attended. We are sending this out again to get to the next stage of the project.

James's life and recovery have had a powerful impact on many people. His is a story of what can be transcended, what can be achieved and the steps to get there. James was a heroin addict, involved in violence and criminality, and a true scallywag! He came across the 12 steps, recovered and dedicated his life to the steps and serving others. His life story is like none other, full of adventure and as he would have described it "stepping into the mystery"; from travelling on the sacred hoop journey in Native American communities, to being kissed by a silverback gorilla in Africa, living in a Buddhist monastery, to meeting his soulmate in his late 50s. To gather this story in its completeness and show what it is possible to overcome using the 12 steps, and the freedom that is available, we have engaged a professional writer who has a very deep understanding of both James's life journey and recovery.

Kate studied English Literature, getting a 1st class honours degree. She went on to teach English and writing in various capacities. Kate has ghost-written books and has also written a novel based on her experience of eating disorders.

One thing that can be guaranteed about this book is, in James's own words, "I promise you it won't be boring"! It is also the intention that this book point people to Steps to Liberation (www.stepstoliberation.com), the community interest company James founded, which offers a free programme of recovery to anyone experiencing addiction, combining the 12 steps with cognitive change psychology, vision tools and indigenous teachings.
