My brother James Needs Stroke Rehab

My brother James Kanfield suffered a left frontal lobe ischemic stroke- pretty massive. His speech, swallowing, some cognitive abilities and right side are affected; his right arm is not working at all right now. The attending Neurological Physician said that in the foreseeable future there would be no change. He gave me 2 choices- feeding tube and nursing home the rest of his life or consider his quality of life and be merciful which meant sending him to hospice with no life support efforts and eventually death. Today he has an IV to keep him hydrated, a feeding tube is not an option as James has had a esophageal transplant in 2005.
Within a few days, James showed improvement. After 10 days he is sitting up, although he cannot speak yet, he is communicating basic yes and no answers. Today, 4/8/18, we helped him stand and transfer to a chair to look out the window. The hospital wants to discharge him because they said they cannot do anything else for him that a skilled nursing facility can't do. The hospital provided a couple therapy visits.
Immediately he needs intensive speech therapy to help him learn to swallow and time is of the essence; the longer he does not receive this therapy the more likely he will not swallow and avoid getting liquids/food into his lungs and pneumonia is more than likely and without an abililty to eat by mouth, death is imminent. For longer term he will need intensive therapy and 24/7 care until he can take care of himself.
His insurance pays for Jima skilled nursing facility but does not pay for any rehab costs . To have any quality of life he will need rehabilitation which cost $45.00 for each 15 minutes.
