1st Caribbean WNBA Player Memoir

Donation protected

I am reaching out to share a mission that I have. The time is ripe to speak up, reclaim my power and share something deeply personal. I have been through a plethora of great challenges and I want to continue my restoration through writing. If you're interested, with your help - I want to self-publish a book. I want my voice to come through as a very sacred offering. Your contribution and support matters to me. Some of you know that I was the first Jamaican WNBA player and won a WNBA Championship with the Seattle Storm. Not everyone knows that I was grew up poor in Kingston, Jamaica and was constantly bullied from grade school through freshman year of college as a foreign student in the U.S. Not everyone knows that I didn’t even learn the game of basketball until my senior year of high school. Not everyone knows the secret I have kept hidden for decades, which I intend to reveal in my book.

All I want, is to create a beautiful offering from what has taken a lot of strength to endure. I want to know that I did my part to make the world a better and more loving place for the children and adults alike in this world. I want every generation after me to know that I did not let any roadblocks or challenges crush my spirit or belief in following my dreams.

Any donations are welcome. It could be as small as the price of your weekly cups of coffee or as big as you feel compelled to offer. In participating you would be supporting me to focus while I think, heal, love and write my journey—the lessons I have learned, the healing I have experienced, and the awareness I wish to bring to others.

In all of this, I hope to inspire courage. Cour-age is made up of the latin root, “cour” which means, of the heart. We, humans, are powerful beyond measure when we remember our innate capacity for love. Love is our strength to create change in our communities and world.

Sincerely,

Simone “Jamaican Hurricane” Edwards

Testimonials

“Simone Edwards has been one of the Seattle Storm’s biggest cornerstones. I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to work with and win a Championship with this incredible, inspirational young woman. Simone has been an integral part of the Storm’s success both on the court and in making our mark in Seattle’s community. Simone's remembered with tremendous fondness, to the many whose lives she has touched.”

Anne Donovan, Seattle Storm Former Head Coach / Connecticut Suns Head Coach

"I traveled to Jamaica in the summer of 1991 and signed 16-year-old Simone Edwards to a basketball scholarship to attend Seminole Junior College in Seminole, Oklahoma. Although Simone had little experience playing basketball when she arrived on campus, she worked hard and had the natural talent to become a Second Team All-American her freshmen year. In her sophomore season, she was named First Team NJCAA All-American and she was also named as the first Kodak All-American in our school's history that season. Simone is now in Seminole State College's Hall of Fame. I am so proud of Simone. Many years ago I knew I had a special athlete, but I did not know she would accomplish all that she has. Most of all she is a beautiful human being that has made many people's lives more fulfilling because they have known her."
