UPDATE FROM JAKE:
Hello Friends!
Over the last couple of years God has been working on my heart and urging me to go on a mission's trip. Last December I told this to my family and asked that for my Christmas gift they invest in that trip. Going above and beyond what I had asked of them, they set up a Go Fund Me account so that not only my family, but my friends could also support my trip. I have been hesitant to publicize this information because although I felt called to go overseas, I did not know where I was being called or what exactly I was being called to do.
Since then God has been faithful and has opened up an opportunity to go to Nepal over Christmas break for a little over 2 weeks (Dec. 21st – January 6th) with 3 other incredibly godly men, one of whom has gone before and established relationships with many of the churches in and around the city of Jiri. Our goal for this mission trip is to equip, serve, and encourage the local churches in Nepal. Three of the four of us are biblical studies majors, and while we are there we will be teaching at a bible college in the city. We will also travel to other cities in order to connect with and encourage churches around the area. You have probably heard that Nepal was hit by two massive earthquakes, and beyond the physical reconstruction going on in many of the cities, these churches feel extremely isolated from the global church.
I would greatly appreciate your helping in funding this trip so that we can serve our brothers and sisters in Nepal who are suffering. Although the goal amount for this GoFundMe page is $1,500, the actual price will be much more costly. Tickets alone cost anywhere between $1,500 - $1,800, and we will have to buy certain equipment like hiking gear in order to get from city to city, and it is likely that we will need to spend some of the nights in hotels. The believers there are also in need of resources in order to better equip their students, so we are hoping to use some of the funds we raise to buy commentaries and other expository books (such as the God’s Word For You series). Any donations would be greatly appreciated as we are hoping to buy the tickets as soon as possible, and every day that goes by the ticket prices go up.

"Aight fam, for this Christmas all I want is a fund set up so that I can go on a missions trip. The money I make during summer usually goes to paying for school, and YouthQuest [a youth ministry Jake participates in through Liberty University that takes him off campus every weekend] has made it impossible to get a job at school so it's been difficult for me to save anything at all, but I feel very strongly that God wants me to go on a missions trip. I'm not sure where or when, but it's best to be prepared for whenever He opens that door. Thanksssssss."
(Rest assured that we tried to tell him that he was missing the point of Christmas--buy all the things!--but those of you who know Jake and his heart for God's kingdom probably aren't surprised by this request at all.)
