Jake Smith Hit and Run Accident Fund

Donation protected
On Friday, November 22, Jake was riding his motorcycle across town near the intersection of Mound st and Ryan Ave in Columbus heading to the shop he owns and operates, when a truck pulled out in front of traffic and stopped leaving him no opportunity to avoid a crash. He struck the front of the vehicle and was laying on the pavement between his bike and the truck when the driver decided to try to flee the scene, and proceeded to run over Jake's right leg, crushing both bones. The driver got out of the truck and fled the scene on foot leaving Jake wounded and immobile in the middle of the road.  He was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he has spent the last week undergoing surgery, receiving stitches, and being monitored. He is beginning the process of healing but it is sure to be a long difficult recovery.  His right leg has plates and screws from knee to ankle and his left leg has a torn ACL which will need surgery in the coming days. Jake runs his motorcycle shop alone and will be unable to work for some time as he heals, which will leave him with no income and mounting medical expenses. Jake does not have health insurance and since the driver has not been found, there is no telling if/when there will any compensation for his injury.  It is hard to say  what the extent of his bills will come to at this time. Almost everyone Jake has known, he has helped in some way and rarely asks for help himself and for those of you who know Jake, you know he would not hesitate to give his last dollar if you needed it.
