Flowers from Ashes: Jag's legacy

Donation protected
On November 13th Jag, along with another pasture mate, spooked and broke out of their pasture after Night check, passing away due to a freak accident. As all horse owners know, this is something you are never prepared for and the pain it causes is unfathomable. It’s a hard pill to swallow when these things happen, especially to someone as wonderful as Shannon who has worked so hard for everything she has.

We are all so incredibly privileged to have watched her and Jag over the last several years. The obvious love she feels for every single one of the horses in her care is very rare in her line of work. You can ask anyone, Shannon is truly one of the most talented, hardworking, and selfless equestrians of our time and we will all miss seeing her out on her magnificent black horse.

Anyone who has had any type of encounter with Shannon knows that to know her is to love her. She has an infectious way about her and people just gravitate towards her. That being said we have banded together in hopes that you will help Shannon continue her dream of competing at the upper levels with a horse of her own. We know that Jag would want to see her create something new and beautiful out of such a tragedy, and be able to continue to live her dream.

With that said, we have created this GoFundMe page for Shannon to help her hopefully fund a new upper level eventing partner. We all know that Jag is irreplaceable in her and all of our hearts but this was a huge loss to her competition string. For those that don’t know, of all of the horses in Shannon’s care Jag was the only one she owned personally.

Jag and Shannon's story began when Bernie, Shannon's mom, bought him off a trailer in a parking lot. Her words to Shannon, “I bought him because he was big, black, and beautiful”. Little did they know how "special" Jag was. Shannon’s first ride resulted in a discovery of Jags immense dislike of mounting and mounting blocks. It took months and months and the undying patience of Shannon to gain the trust of "The Big Black Horse". He was a challenge at every aspect of training but Shannon never gave up. He moved quickly up the levels, and was successful at every venture. Two years ago he suffered what could have been a career ending injury, went through major surgery and after almost a year off to come back to top preliminary placings. Shannon would somehow get on him, even with his quirky mounting issues, then off they would go. With Shannon's love, hard work, and persistence they had made it to Preliminary with their eyes on running Jag's first intermediate and 1* in the spring. He was her forever horse, her heart horse.

We hope you will donate whatever you are willing and able so we can help Shannon start a new chapter in her life. One that we can all follow along from the beginning, watch as they progress through the levels, and one day be galloping through those finish flags at a 4* event, knowing you played a part in making that happen.

In loving memory of Jag and in faith of a beautiful new beginning for Shannon.
