Listening to Displaced People
WHAT?
A podcast series called Beyond Soundbites that features the voices and stories of displaced people I met in Turkey in the Fall of 2017.
WHO?
The target audience is evangelical church-goers who have taken a supportive stance toward displaced people and refugee issues.
WHY?
Those of us who want to help and advocate for displaced people can unintentionally do so in a way that strips them of their God-given image and voice. Therefore, one of the most important things we can do is listen to those for whom we claim to advocate. This podcast is an invitation to join me as a listener.
WHAT’S HAPPENED SO FAR?
-Individual supporters and organizational sponsors donated about $4,800 starting in July 2017. This money covered travel expenses and sound gear for the trip.
- While there, I connected with about 20 ministries and organizations who are supporting the 3 million plus displaced people who currently live in Turkey.
- I did about a dozen audio interviews with displaced people from Iran, Syria, and Afghanistan, and came away with 13 hours of recorded audio material.
- The Refugee Highway Partnership North America became my key group to team up with on this project. Beyond Soundbites will share the RHP branding, which will help broaden the initial base of listeners and provide strong media content for the RHP. Learn more about the RHP here .
REMAINING NEEDS?
As this project evolved, so has the budget required to do it well. I’m praying for the right team to come into place and the funds to pay them in the following areas:
Story editing - $500
Mixing - $500
Transcription - $500
Web Design - $500
Music creation/licensing - $800
TOTAL - $2,800
WHO'S ON BOARD SO FAR?
These organizations are either contributing to the cost of the trip, sharing the podcast with their volunteers and supporters when it's complete, or both!
