My Service Trip to Tanzania

Donation protected
Dear friends and family,

Along with other students and staff from my school, I have decided to take a trip to Moshi, Tanzania. I will be going from February 21 - March 11, 2018. While in Tanzania, we will be involved in service work at Longuo Primary School and serve at an orphanage in Moshi.

I am raising funds to help cover the expense of the trip.  I would greatly appreciate your help.   No amount is too small!  Also, anything raised in excess will go directly to the orphanage.

If you would like additional information about the humanitarian foundation through which we are working, you can visit the Rustic Volunteers' website at http://www.rusticvolunteers.org

At the primary school, we will finish the local community center, which is located on the school grounds. It needs electricity, water, windows, and flooring. The community center will create economic opportunities for the town and the school by allowing them to host events and rent the space. They will also gain a cleaner, more efficient, and practical area to prepare and cook meals for the students. Currently, they are preparing all of the school lunches outside in a fire pit and carrying water from the local well. We hope that our volunteerism and fundraising will enable us to provide everything needed to complete this project.

During our visit to Tanzania, we will volunteer at the local orphanage, which is severely understaffed and underfunded. We will help care for and play with the children. I'm excited to be part of this work, and I believe this trip will be a life-changing experience for the children in need and for me!

Along with the service work, our group will be learning about the environment, culture, and history of the local area.  We will also climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and observe wildlife at the Ngorongoro Crater.

Tanzania has a population of 38 million people. Of that, approximately 4 million children under the age of 14 live on the streets or in orphanages. It is believed that in Moshi, the town where we will be volunteering,  approximately 6,000 kids live on the street without any assistance.

Consequently, my school has partnered with Rustic Volunteer and Travel, an organization dedicated to helping those in need. They own or sustain orphanages and provide children with basic needs such as food, water, shelter, immunizations, and education. Poverty, abuse, AIDS, and alcoholism have left many of these children in Tanzania without families, depriving them of the parental love, support, and care they need.

Rustic Volunteer projects aspire to change the situation of these children by providing caring volunteers to work and play with them. Our work with these children and your assistance can help keep these children off of the street and provide them with safe, healthy, happy, and productive childhoods. Our love and support as volunteers is the most important element for these disadvantaged children. Again, their website is http://www.rusticvolunteers.org.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to read this and for helping me in any way that you can.

With gratitude,

Jacob
