Jacob Lalli's Recovery

Donation protected
On July 7th Jacob's world changed very suddenly.  We found Jacob in his room, unable to speak or use his right side.  At our local hospital they said he had had a stroke at the young age of 23. They flew him by helicopter to Fargo, where the neurosurgeon was able to  remove the clot and restore blood flow.  Then came more bad news.  The stroke  was caused from an aortic dissection.  His ascending aorta had dissected and went upward with the damage.

Jacob was then flown by plane  to the Mayo in Rochester MN.  Mom flew with him.  Jacob had surgery to repair the damage.  He went through a 10 hour surgery.  The surgeon said the surgery was successful but gave Jacob a 50/50 chance of pulling through. , That Sunday they kept him mildly sedated.  He did open his eyes a few times.

On Monday the 10th they wanted to do a MRI to check on swelling on the brain, so they needed to remove some wire leads that were attached to a temporary pace maker. (This is protocol to put in after open heart surgery in case they need it)   I was sitting by Jacob as they were pulling the wires out and the unthinkable happened.  One of the leads tore a hole in Jacob's heart.  As staff came rushing in I saw in that quick moment Jacob was loosing blood pressure he was coding.  I left the room as they reopened his chest,  They were able to find the bleed and one of them held his finger on Jacobs Heart until the dr could stitch it up.  They then took him back to surgery to make sure the repair on the hole was ok and to close him up again.

They kept Jacob mildly sedated that day.  He had been through so much.  The next day Jacob woke up a little. He knew that his dad and I were right by his side.  He moved his right finger a little.  The next day he felt touch to his toe.  Miracles were happening.

The day Jacob's breathing tube was taken out was remarkable.  We were not sure if he would be able to talk.  When I leaned in to tell him I loved him.  He Said "I love you" back to me. .

Over the next couple of days in ICU Jacob showed signs everyday.  Each day more movement in the right side.  Speech was there but it was not clear.  After a week in ICU they took Jacob to another room on the carido floor.   Jacob took his first steps and then the next day took you for a walk.

Amazing progress!  The doctors and nurses said you were a miracle. !

After a few days Jacob got to go to Intensive Rehab floor.  There they worked with balance and speech and each day Jacob kept pushing forward.

After 19 days Jacob got to go HOME!

At home Jacob has been going to cardiac rehab and speech therapy 3x a week.  He is getting stronger.  The speech has came a long ways but he has a ways to go.

I am setting this recovery fund up for Jacob, because he has been through so much.   He was working as a caregiver at an Assisted Living when this happened.  And now we are unsure as to when he will be able to return to work.  He has NO income and I want him to focus on his recovery not finances.

I took 10 weeks off from work, 6 which are unpaid.  His dad took the 19 days off while we were with Jacob in the hospital.  We stayed right at the hospital and would not leave him.

As I said earlier I am sitting this fund up for Jacob, so he can concentrate on going forward and not have to worry about his finances.   It will help greatly to help with his lost wages and expenses that have occured with this medcial emergency.  And help him get some things he needs.

Jacob does not have a bank account so I will be making sure that all donations will go directly to Jacob.

Thank you for reading this.   We are so blessed that God graced Jacob with this recovery.  He has came so far.  He will continue with his speech therapy and cardio rehab.   We are so blessed to have our son.  He is A Miracle.

Lets show Jacob our love and support by giving him a hand.

Much love from the Lalli family
