Following in his father’s footsteps, Jack Campbell decided to pursue a career in law enforcement
in 1999 and is currently a Deputy with the Saline County Sheriff’s Office. Jack is the sole
Deputy in charge of enforcing County Codes and the majority of his time is spent on issues
dealing with animals. Whether it is: a loose cow on Highway 5; chickens attacked by a dog in
East End; horses not being fed adequately on Chicot Road; a sick subject in Lonesdale being
transported to the hosptial via an ambulance and her pets needing attention; vicious animals
complaints or; monkey bites, Jack handles each call with a great deal of respect and compassion
for victims, complainants, suspects and even the animals.
Jack was diagnosed with throat cancer two months ago. He is undergoing daily radiation
treatments and weekly chemotherapy. He is the primary caretaker for his 79-year-old mother
and now, with the affects from the radiation and chemo treatments, Jack is no longer able to
prepare meals for his mother due to aromas which make him nauseated. The financial burden
placed on Jack has also been tremendously difficult because many of the prescribed medications
are not covered by the insurance provider. He drives himself to and from the hospital in Little
Rock every day and averages 300 miles per week on his vehicle.
For over two decades Deputy Jack Campbell has served the citizens of Saline County proudly.
Anyone who has has ever come in contact with Jack: whether a victim; a witness; a suspect; or a
co-worker will tell you that he has an uncanny way of warming-up to people and making them
feel comfortable when they are discussing their problems. Although Jack has received numerous
complimentary letters from citizens and countless accolades from Sheriff Rodney Wright, each
time his response is the same: “I’m just doing my job, sir.”
In this difficult time for Jack, every member of the Saline County Sheriff’s Office wants to, “Do
their job” and help him out. Please consider making a donation to help defer the mounting costs
for Deputy Campbell during this tough period.
