Chris Sawchuk: Back in the Saddle

Chris' Story:

On Tuesday May 15th,  my brother went off the road while riding his motorcycle with a group of friends out to Big Hill Springs National Park

Although his injuries at the time seemed to be limited to a couple cracked bones and a puncture wound to his left thigh, he was in excrutiating pain and quickly became extremely ill upon his arrival to the hospital

Thursday morning it was confirmed he had allowed a painful and deadly virus (Gas Gangrene) to enter his body through the puncture site.  The virus was eating his leg muscles from the inside out.  Within an hour he was prepared for surgery and a team of some of the best surgeons in the province raced against the clock to literially save his life

Due to the extensive damage caused by this flesh eating disease, a little over 36 hours following the terrible crash, the surgeons determined the leg could not be saved.  A full amputation of his left leg was determined necessary

And so it happened....

Chris woke to an amputated leg at the hip and the reality of a potential year long hospital stay

Goal:

It is my goal to allow all the people who ask, "How can we help?" the ability to assist in speeding up Chris' return to normal life.  To return home. To return to work, To return to his kids......

Chris currently lives in a 3 level town house, works as a construction project manager and spends his spare time shuddling his two children to and from evening and weekend activies.  All of these things including his greatest hobby, riding motorcycle, will need to adapt or change completely

Mission one: Coffee pot for hospital room - which patient, nurse, visitor or brother isn't in a better mood with a steaming cup of fresh java in hand? Task Complete

Mission two: Cover Medical Expenses Chris will occur while resiziding at the hospital over his extended stay

Mission three: Purchase Mobility Aids: crutches, wheel chairs, prostetic leg, transportation from Point A to Point B

Mission four: Adapt his surrounds outside the hospital to allow for successfull daily functions with the new amputation

Please share this campaign with all your contacts and if possible post a happy or fun memory of Chris and yourself in the comment area :-)
