Recently, Amanda’s life was turned upside down when at 28 years old she was diagnosed with a rare form of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. She has a granulocytic sarcoma, which is a leukemia tumor that can form on any organ in the body; in her case the tumor is located on her cervix. This type of cancer is rare, so expected treatment time and outcome are still unknown. Her doctors have started her on an intensive chemotherapy regimen, which will continue for months with the possibility of further treatments (radiation, bone marrow transplant, or others). Her team expects that she will be unable to work for at least a year, likely longer.
It will come as no surprise to those who know Amanda that she is an undeniably strong woman. She is fierce, easy-going, and truly free-spirited! She is a loyal and compassionate friend who always open to new people, places, and experiences. Whether it is travelling to South America to volunteer her time and skills with World Vets or cutting and donating her beautiful long hair before chemo began, she exudes passion and selflessness in all she does. Even in this time of need, Amanda is most concerned about the well-being of those around her. The beautiful strength and positivity she has demonstrated throughout this journey so far is remarkable.

As a recently graduated, self-employed locum/relief veterinarian, Amanda is eligible for little to no employment insurance benefits. Your loving contributions will help her with her monthly living expenses, ongoing medications, transportation (to and from the hospital as well as between Vancouver and her home on Vancouver Island), and more.
