Lindy Garnette Hurricane damage

Two years ago Lindy and Alma Perry-Garnette purchased a home that would accommodate their large family, which includes 4 grandchildren that they are raising,   This house was selected because it provided the right space for their disabled son to come stay the weekend and  their aging parents to be comfortable when they visit.  Here's what happened just two weeks ago, as told by Lindy:

Strong winds blew a lot of rain into our house. Today we essentially destroyed over a third of our house to keep our kids safe from toxic mold. Our insurance company is refusing to pay anything stating that “wind blown rain” isn’t a covered loss. As our County was not declared a disaster area, no Federal or other help. Close enough to sustain a $15,000-$20,000 loss and not close enough for any help at all. As a result, we are not able to hire professionals nor restore our home. Our plan is to make it as safe as possible. We have worked the last week and full steam today to throw out water damaged belongings, salvage others and remove molding laminate flooring, carpet and linoleum. We have lost baby books and record albums, we have lost our sense of comfort in our own home and hopefully we will not lose our health. I guess I didn’t anticipate the profound sense of sadness at having our lives, once again, completely upended. The profound sadness of watching part of our house become totally worthless, knowing we can’t restore it. 

Lindy and Alma do SO much for the community.  They have taken on  raising 4 young grandchildren at a time when most people would be slowing down and looking forward to retirement.  Let's do what we can so Lindy and Alma and their extended family can enjoy their home again and they can get back to the amazing work they do for our community!
