Angela's Prosthesis

My name is Angela Gardner and I am a 42 year old  female with diabetes. I have 1 daughter and I have gone through it!! In October of 2006, I lost my right leg due to an infection and the fact that I am diabetic. In December 2014, including Christmas, I spent 3 weeks in the hospital with 4 days of them being in critical care. An infection had gotten in my bloodstream and the bone of my foot, and my kidneys were also not functioning properly; therefore, I had to have 4 surgeries! Needless to say, I lost my right leg this time. With  medical bills that have surpassed $150,000, not including the cost of the 2 legs  that will be needed, it has been hard. As an independent woman, I was always the giver and never thought that i would be on this side of the spectrum, but due to diabetes, i have had to have amputations of both my legs. I have insurance but it is only scratching the surface and it is hard to stay afloat. I am having to depend on my 12 yr old daughter who is helping me tremendously but i know it's a lot on her because she has to do so much. She is doing so much more than i could have ever imagined. Her father has also been helping me and trying to work at the same time.  It is breaking my heart that they have to cater to my every need but they are showing me how much they love me!! I love them to the moon and back because they have put their lives on hold for me!! I know I won't be down always because once my stump has healed, I can be fitted for my prosthetic legs! I am a student with 4 classes left to have my Master's and I want to use this situation and my degree to help others who may find themselves in this type of situation. My goal is to start a support group for people who are afraid to have this procedure done even though they may need it!!
I'm praying for the day i get fitted for my legs so my household can get back to normal again. I am not quick to complain because i know there is someonw out there who is doing worse than i am.
