Help Me Go To NYU Tisch
Donation protected
Acting has been my outlet all through high school for expressing myself and getting through difficult times. Dealing with such a visible disability (I was born without a right hand and a partial right foot) all my life has been tough, but using theatre as a way to forget it, become other people and focus on creativity instead of the way I look is what has given me the confidence to love myself and go after what I am passionate about. I think it is important to communicate with the world that you don't have to have all your limbs or look the same as everyone else to be on stage and be an actor. I can't name very many physically disabled actors, and I want to be able to show anyone who is different looking that it doesn't matter and they can pursue whatever they want to do.
A few days ago I got the amazing news that I was accepted into the acting program at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. I was beyond ecstatic, I got into my dream school, for something I am incredibly passionate about!!! And then heartbroken when I realized that with the small amount of financial aid I was given, there was no way I would ever be able to afford to go.
Even with the scholarship, I got ($24,000) I would still need to take out a loan of and pay off $40,000 per year. My mom is a school teacher so this was impossible to consider.
Talking with my mom, we decided that the only way this would be manageable is if I could get half of this amount through applying for scholarships and working. To get $20,000 though is a lot to ask for and rely on only maybe getting scholarships and working all summer, so I am turning to the internet for help as well. I ask that if you have any way to donate, even a few dollars could help. And if you cannot, share this with people you know that could.
If I were able to go to this Tisch, I couldn't even express my excitement and gratitude. It would be a dream come true and allow me to continue on my path to do what I think is one of the most beautiful and powerful art forms and ways of expression.
