Help get my mother to Florida

     Hi everyone, My name is Ivy. I'm 24 years old born and raised in Queens, New York and am currently living in Deerfield Beach, Florida. I moved down here about 4 years ago to make a better life for myself. I would never imagine myself here asking for your help, but I feel like I have no other options. My mother brought me into this world to take care of and support me through everything. With time things change and now its my turn to do the same for her. She has lived in the same one bedroom apartment for the past 23 years and does not have anyone around to help her.


     In early 2000, my mother was diagnosed with Dermatomyositis which is a disease that affects her immune system and muscles. At the time I was about 6 or 7 years old living with her as a single mom in Queens, New York. No matter what my mother always found ways to make ends meet and take care of me, whether it was buying dance constumes, taking me to rehearsal, buying me clothes, or just simply putting food on the table and a roof over my head. 

     As I got older she began to struggle more with everyday tasks. Her legs became weak and the doctor suggested she started using a cane. With her illness affecting her everyday life, she was not able to work and had to apply for disabilty and food stamps. She is still currently living alone in the same apartment which is on the 3rd floor. The building does not have an elevator and she is now using a walker. She very rarely goes outside because of the troubles going up and down the stairs, along with not being able to carry her own walker downstairs. This year she was also diagnosed with Osteoporosis which doesn't make things any easier.

     My goal by reaching out to all of you is to help move my mother down to Florida to be in an apartment near me so I can take care of her like she took care of me. The money will be used for moving fees, finding an apartment, furnishing it and getting her life started in a new happy environment. I think about my mother on a daily basis and it would mean the world to me and her to have her local so I can attend to her needs as she deserves.
