Ivones New Wheels

Annually the North Chicago Police Department host a Shop with a Cop event to assist families during the holiday season. In 2019 the agency assisted a family with a non-verbal, non-mobile, wheelchair bound (Due to cerebral palsy) family member. 

As a result, it came to light that the grandparents of this family had taken on all the duties, including medical, for all three of the grandchildren after their daughter had succumbed to cancer.  

Ivone Garibay is 15 years old and was born with cerebral palsy. Ivone is completely dependent in her grandparents to take care of all her needs. Ivone attends school, but the family is challenged to provide Ivone with a better quality of life due to the lack of transportation. 

The North Chicago Firefighters IAFF Local3271 and the North Chicago Police Patrolman ICOPS Union have partnered up to help Ivone Garibay to raise money to help the family in the purchase of a handicap accessible vehicle, which the family is in great need of.
