IVF for Kayla & Jake

Donation protected
Jake and I met in October 2018, got engaged in 6 weeks, married in 3 months. We waited 30 years to find each other, and every day we try to make up for lost time. We love, respect, and trust each other so much it’s indescribable.  We look forward to every day we have been given and want to share our life with children; to have a family.

Unfortunately, I am unable to conceive without medical assistance due to a low egg count. Fertility specialists have informed me that I will likely experience menopause 15 years sooner than the average woman my age (32).   The cause is unknown, but I’ve been reassured that there is nothing I could have done differently to change the outcome.

Not yet discouraged!  We can become parents and start our family through IVF. The only barrier is the cost associated with it ($14 000).

I work as a clinical counsellor, have a private practice, and work 60+ hours a week.  I support my husband and I, as he is completing school. He’s already a trained and licensed dentist in India, but not in Canada.  To become licensed he has to write an exam and go back to school for 2 years, or write 4 exams over 2-3 years (more expensive than going back to school for 2 years).   So, he is studying full time and working part time. I work full time and a half.  I work more than the average person to pay for our expenses, which includes a lot of school debt.

We are both well educated, hard working, family oriented people. We would wait to start a family if we had the time. But, due to my low egg count and likelihood of very premature menopause, the time to start a family is now; we don’t have the luxury of time.

Another small obstacle we have is the damage to our house. In Winnipeg, MB we had a bad storm that caused damages to our house, which resulted in flooding in the ceilings, walls, which caused a small fire (sparked electrical) and damage to the flooring. Unfortunately, our house insurance is not covering the damage as they deemed it “pre-existing”.  So, we’re also left with near $10 000 bill on top of having (a) school debt of $80 000, (b) IVF treatment of $14 000.

We are asking for support and donations to cover our IVF treatment. School debt is part of life; unexpected damages happen to homes (solution is to renovate slowly); but we had not anticipated IVF treatment.

Any donations, words of support and encouragement, and/or any suggestions to fundraise or to access resources is very much appreciated. Thank you
