Title: HOCKEY FAMILY NEEDS AN ASSIST
The Ives Family is the ultimate Hockey Family. If you have played this sport or been associated in anyway, you know we become a family quite quickly. With all the travel and commiserating on the stinky bags, the bond is fierce and strong, just like our children on the ice. We happily get up at 5:00am to drive to drive to games, living on coffee and donuts, navigating weekend tournaments and crazy weather because it’s not just a game, and it’s not just a rink... it our second home and extended family. The Ives fit this mold. They are our family and the most dedicated parents I know to “goalie” daughter, Reese and “defender” son, Ethan.
On July 26, at approximately 7:30pm, while driving Reese home from practice they were struck by a drunk driver. Goalie Reese has a broken foot, severe bruising and lacerations and lost a chicklet (tooth). Dad, Dustin, has a bad concussion, significant bruising but was a hero in getting his daughter out of the car to safety.
All were taken to shock trauma in Baltimore, Maryland. Mom, Jessica, was airlifted from the site in critical condition. She has many internal injuries including a broken pelvis, a leg broken in two places, two fractured vertebrae and many lacerations.
The damage is extensive and the surgeries, and healing will be a long process. They need our support!
Her husband described her best:
“First she is small but mighty. She is a fighter. She has faced so many obstacles and she never runs away from a challenge. She may be quiet and small in stature but she is a force to be reckoned with when she is on a mission. In other words, she is a hockey mom, in every sense of the term.
Secondly, she is a rock. She is the solid foundation of our family. She holds us all together. She stabilizes us in the midst of the storms of life. She is steady, faithful and unwavering. She is who we all hold to when things are difficult.
Jessica is a fierce advocate for her family. She is a true momma bear. Gentle, caring, but mess with her family at your own peril. She will defend the people that she loves and advocate for them with all she has.
Jessica is beauty. She is a living model of grace, love and forgiveness. She is a counselor that loves people, helps them, and desires to see each person experience the best of life. She loves
Jess is a fighter! This is an extremely long toad to recovery. And if I’ve learned anything, we crazy hockey people take care of each other. And this family needs us all to give them an “assist”.
